Personal, targeted exercises prevent and rehabilitate RSI

Repetitive strain injuries such as tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and many others develop in stages over the course of time. These injuries often go unnoticed until the condition has progressed to the point where tissue damage has become severe and pain or disability has brought it to the person’s attention. General exercises, while beneficial, are not particularly designed to target a problem a computer worker user has.

Ergonomics or exercise?

Ergonomic products such as a specially designed keyboard, mouse or chair reduce the physical stresses of working at the computer, and these measures have an important role in reducing RSI. Ergonomic measures alone, however, cannot actually restore balance to muscles and joints. The only means of generating balance, strength and endurance in the body is through exercise. In this, general exercises and stretches - ones not targeting a specific condition - can be somewhat effective. However when an exercise plan is based on an individual’s particular needs the results are much more profound.
